Interventional Radiology (IR) aka image-guided surgery is one of the biggest medical innovations over the past 50 years. IR procedures save patients' lives and improve their quality of life across all areas of the body.

2.6

Number Needed to Treat (NNT) for Stroke mechanical thrombectomy - an impact that is unparalleled anywhere else in healthcare.

Academia has not kept up with the pace of innovation in IR. Currently, there is a lack of acadademic infrastructure for interventional radiology in the UK, with very few academic IR consultants.

The UK National Interventional Radiology Research (UNITE) Collaborative was founded in 2021 with two key aims.

The UNITE Collaborative conducts multi-centre studies to answer key questions in interventional radiology. â€‹â€‹We collaborate with global experts, research collaboratives from partner specialties as well as patient groups to figure out key research priorities and design studies that seek to answer these questions.

The collaborative also provides education and mentorship to train the next generation of researchers in interventional radiology.
