RESEARCH PRIORITIES

We have identified a few key areas that we wish to focus our upcoming projects on based on discussion with experts.  We invite any trainees who want to undertake a project in these themes to submit their idea on our proposal form and work with us to run a national project. In parallel to this, we are running Delphi studies (DEFINE-IO, DEFINE-VI) to formalise setting research priorities in interventional radiology.

EMBOLISATION THERAPY

Is glue better than particle embolisation for PAE?

How does PAE compare to HOLEP?

How well does PAE work in smaller prostates?

Do resorbable particles work better than permanent ones for UFE?

How does GAE compare to alternative treatments?

What is the long term outcome for GAE?
How do we treat patellofemoral OA? Which arteries do we treat for embolisation?

DVT, PE AND THROMBECTOMY

What are the long term outcomes for PE thrombectomy?

Which patients benefit most from having the procedure done?

Is there any difference in the various thrombectomy devices?

Which patients should have venous stents?

What anticoagulation should we put patients on after venous stenting?

INTERVENTIONAL ONCOLOGY

What is the long term recurrence rate for ablation procedures?

STROKE THROMBECTOMY

Improving delivery of stroke thrombectomy services across the UK

Is distal occlusion treatable with mechanical thrombectomy?

What is the role/importance of collaterals?
